Deep gradient

A smooth sweep from inky shadows to dazzling white to reveal banding and halo artifacts.

  • Look for crisp transitions with no dirty bands.
  • Check that near-black tones retain detail rather than crushing to pure black.

Specular starburst challenge

Max brightness, enable the highlight pulse, then look away and back quickly. Do you see the after-image? If it lingers, your screen is pushing serious nits.

Color volume safari

Switch between Neon pulse and Wide gamut bars while adjusting the luminance slider. Notice if saturated colors stay vibrant even at extreme brightness.

Shadow crawl

Drop the brightness slider near 0.7× and hide the room lights. With Deep gradient selected, do faint stripes appear? A great HDR panel keeps shadows silky.

Quick HDR checklist

  • Ensure your phone supports HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision and that it’s enabled in system settings.
  • Some browsers require experimental flags for HDR. Try Chrome or Edge on the latest version for best results.
  • Disable low power or adaptive brightness modes—they often dim peaks and break the test.
  • Keep your screen clean: dust can dull highlights more than you think.
  • Remember real HDR relies on hardware—this playground simply gives you the patterns to verify it.
